CIPA stats show big gains in mirrorless cameras

The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) has released statistics for October 2017, showing year-on-year total camera shipments down a 13%. There was a year-over-year 11% increase in the digital camera market from January to October. Compared to October 2016, 22% fewer DSLRs were shipped globally. There was a 12% rise in mirrorless cameras; this is especially impressive considering the two major consumer brands – Nikon and Canon – do not have a market-leading product in this category.
